Art of the Real – Production Journal

Authorship: The plan is to not be a part of the video. I will do the interview, but not be a part of it on camera or voice. I will use interview clips as the foundation of the piece with graphics and film clips as cover.

Content: Just a profile video of the filmmaker Nina Paley. Content will just be the single interview and footage from her films, videos from her life that are posted online, and then graphics to help as needed.

Shots: Two camera shoot for the interview. All the rest of the footage will be archival from her films, talks, and videos. I’ve already downloaded much of the footage that I will be using.

Anxieties and Obstacles: I haven’t done an interview in awhile, so I might be a little rusty. I don’t know the space, so I’ll be walking in blind and have to wing it. I am a little worried that there is so much that I want to talk about, that I won’t have time to ask everything that I want, and also that it will be very hard to compress the info down to 3-5 minutes.

Preparation: The shoot is tomorrow, so I have done my preparation tonight. Tested all the equipment (Camera, Lights, Audio) and did a practice shoot. Packed all equipment and have it ready to load. Batteries charged. Extra media formatted. Info sheet prepared: Map, contact number, questions for interview. Permission Form packed.
