Art of the Real – Post Production Journal
Reflection: Happy with camera one footage, don’t know if I will use anything from camera two, answers were good. If I had it to do over I might get more direct questions and answers, and get a better shot from camera two.
What Do You Have:
What Can You Say: I don’t do paper edits, but here are a few ideas. Might have to cut down the material and just focus on her making the movie. Might add narration to make the stories shorter and faster. Might add a stand up at the beginning to make it a 5 questions type thing (could be the start of a series).
Reshoots: Might need to shoot a stand up or record narration, but no reshoots. Not a fan of reshoots. It would have to be an absolute technical disaster to need to do a reshoot. If you didn’t get what you wanted, then work with what you have. There is always a way to get a story out of the footage that you have shot.
Evolution: I am liking the idea of starting a series with this as the first episode. Like a 5 questions with interesting people kind of thing. Not what I had planned, but I like the idea. I have also looked into making it into a bigger piece with other filmmakers and filming a dinner where I ask the filmmakers how they make money to be creative. I already have someone who will let me shoot at their house and will make dinner for the group. Just need to decide if I want to do it.
Timeline: Won’t have a rough draft done on Wednesday. I’ll need to work on it this weekend. Probably get a rough PBS style thing done on Friday. Then do an alternative version with a standup for an intro as the pilot of a series. Film stand up and rough cut it together on Saturday. I’ll use the PBS style rough cut to pull segments to this one. Sunday decide which I like better and then do the fine cut. Monday present to the class.
